The New Marex 330 Scandinavia and Navan C30 at the 2025 PBIBS

We took a break from work on Saturday, March 22nd to visit the 2025 Palm Beach International Boat Show.  This year’s boat show did not disappoint with its $1.2 billion worth of yachts, boating products and accessories, including hundreds of boats ranging from 8-foot dinghies to huge superyachts.  The show location at Palm Harbor Marina hosts an exclusive dock segment which showcases luxury superyachts ranging from 98 feet to 300 feet in length.

As trawler fans, the Kadey-Krogen 50 and Nordhavn 68 were definitely favorites.  The Krogen 50 Open is a long-range cruising yacht with a full displacement hull, open architecture with clean wood detailing, an amazing amount of storage, and walk-in engine room with 6.5 feet of headroom and single or twin diesels.  At 6 knots, the Krogen 50 can travel 5000 miles and can easily serve as a full-time, world-traveling liveaboard.

The Nordhavn 68 fits into a liveaboard class all its own.  The renowned Nordhavn line is the truest example of an ocean-crossing vessel.  With its bulbous bow and 205,000 lb displacement hull, this Nordhavn can carry over 3,000 gallons of fuel and almost 700 gallons of water.  With a 21-foot beam and aft pilothouse, the Nordhavn 68 showcases modern styling and a stunning interior.  The gourmet galley and heads shine with granite countertops and top-of-the-line fixtures.  The engine room features a 6.2 foot head height and a single 425 hp John Deere marine engine to allow a cruising speed of 9.5 kts.

As we toured the smaller boats, the new Navan C30 stood out as comparable to an Axopar 29 Cross Cabin or Saxdor 320 GTC design, but with more room, a larger forward cabin and a competitive price.  The new Navan comes with a 12vdc A/C system which runs off a dedicated battery bank, as well as an electric grill powered by the battery bank inverter system, aft flip-up window to expand the salon, asymmetrical cabin doors, interior and exterior galley, remote battery switching and a choice of single or twin engines up to 600hp.  “NAVAN boats are expertly engineered to feature an innovative T-Step Hull, showcasing maximum performance that inspires you to discover all that awaits upon the waves. The Marex 330 Scandinavia was another new boat at the PBIBS and showcased an incredible amount of indoor and outdoor space for a boat of only 32 feet!  A sliding door between the cockpit and salon allowed the space to open, and direct access from the helm to the starboard passageway was accessible through a pilot door.  The Marex includes options of adding a top rack for paddleboards or bikes or solar panels with up to 900 watts of charging power.  The swim platform includes an innovative flip-down seat, and the helm includes a double dashboard with Simrad touch screens.  The Marex 330 is a beauty of a boat with its outdoor teak flooring, luxurious interior fabrics and a meticulously thought-out entertaining space!  330 Scandinavia | Marex Boats

On the superyacht dock, the mega-yacht Gene Chaser was stunning – a “chase boat” for Dr. Jonathan Rothberg’s 180-foot Gene Machine superyacht.  Gene Chaser, with its standout black hull, axe bow and open hanger is equipped with two laboratories, a converted shipping container that holds an ATV and other toys, hot tub, dive equipment, glass-enclosed robots and much more!  The commercial engine room has four engines and three generators, and the huge yacht could achieve speeds up to 25mph.
